A Glass Act: 100 Years of Transparency Lecture

Garfield Park Conservatory, Spertus Institute, and Trump Tower: glass is an defining element of each structure. Learn about the restoration of the conservatory's glass, the facade of the new Spertus Institute on South Michigan Avenue, and the wrap-around glass skin of Trump Tower, under construction on the Chicago River at Wabash Avenue. Three architects will present their work: John Eifler, FAIA (Eifler & Associates) will explain the restoration of the conservatory's roof; Mark Sexton, FAIA (Krueck & Sexton Architects) will present the design of recently-completed Spertus; and Timothy Poell, AIA (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP) will talk about Trump Tower. "Flower Power" Summer Flower Show

Garfield Park Conservatory

June 7- September 28, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily; Thursdays till 8 p.m.

Our summer tropical show will feature showy flowering plants in addition to those selected for colorful foliage. The theme “Flower Power” will be enriched by a soundtrack of hit 60’s and 70’s songs playing in Horticulture Hall that include flower and plant names in them.

The dynamic Dong Fang Performing Arts combine Chinese folk song and dance, children’s performance, Beijing Opera, acrobatics and even Kong Fu. Dong Fang is the result of over 150 performers in chorus, dance, theater, opera and Chinese variety arts. Join us as they kick-off our inaugural Legacy Music Series, celebrating diversity through traditional and cultural performances you don’t want to miss.
