Spring Flower Show

Put some spring in your step starting in January! Come view the Spring Flower Show to enjoy gorgeous flowers long before they are blooming naturally outside. The show will cure your winter blues with pinks, whites, reds, and fuschias! Enjoy a burst of azaleas during the first half of the show – some of which are descendents of azaleas on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition! Hydrangeas will be featured in the second half of the show - blooming in pinks, whites and blues.
 

     
   

Fleurotica 2010

Cost: $100 for Reception; $175 for Reception & Runway Show

 

The fashion event of the year is almost here! A “unique runway adventure,” Fleurotica features artistic floral interpretations in clothing and accessories – all are made from flowers, plants and leaves – to raise money for programs and activities run by the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance. The evening will hold lots of amazing sights and surprises, and is sure to be the talk of the town!

Designing Green Leaf Sculptures,
Just in Time for Spring

Saturday, April 3

Hours: 10 am – Noon

Where: Community Room

Cost: $5 suggested donation per person

 

Join floral designer Stacy Minor in turning over a new leaf. During this workshop, we will focus on the sculptural possibilities of greenery. We will examine incorporating palm leaves, banana leaves, lime leaves, and more, as we create green centerpieces just in time for spring. Registration is not required.  

Using Hydrangeas, Azaleas and other Spring Flower’s in Floral Center Pieces Saturday, May 8 Hours: 10 am to Noon Where: Community Room Cost: $15 required registration per person; $20 per couple Bring your mother along to this workshop, and share a floral experience. 18th Annual Green and Growing Fair

Kick off the growing season, and celebrate Earth Day, at the 18th Annual Green & Growing Fair at the Garfield Park Conservatory. This urban gardening fair, sponsored by GreenNet, Chicago's Urban Greening Network, plunges into spring by hosting a variety of vendors, workshops, demonstrations, and family activities to get your rusty green thumb up and running. Just some of the activities in store during the fair are:

Purchase heirloom seeds, unique seedlings, and other inspirational garden materials

Family take-home planting activities, such as rot pot seed starting activities, and grow a pizza garden!

“Beer Under Glass” Micro-Brew Event

Thursday, May 13th

Hours: 5:30 pm – 8 pm

Where: Throughout the Conservatory

Cost: $35 online in advance; $45 at the door

 

Enjoy the sights of the Garfield Park Conservatory while tasting local microbrews brought to you by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild. Get a souvenir glass of the event, and try several different microbrews from around the area. Local and organic food will also be available for sampling. Watch our website for details on the participating brewers and restaurants, and to purchase your tickets! Must be 21 years old or older to attend. Tickets will be $35 per person online in advance, and $45 per person at the door the night of the event.

Inspired by Nature Photo Exhibit

Formerly at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, the photo exhibit accompanying Julia Bachrach and Jo Ann Nathan’s book Inspired by Nature: The Garfield Park Conservatory and Chicago’s West Side is now at the Conservatory! This exhibit includes photographs, drawings and maps highlighting the history of the Garfield Park Conservatory and the West Side in honor of the Conservatory’s Centennial year. The book Inspired by Nature: The Garfield Park Conservatory and Chicago’s West Side is available for purchase in the Gift Shop. Please note: Because the Community Room is often rented to outside organizations, please contact the front desk of the Conservatory at 312-746-5100 before your visit to make sure the exhibit will be open to the public while you are here.
